Here are the most recent top results from our fencers:

JUNIOR OLYMPICS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

NYFA sent 5 fencers to the Junior Olympics in Baltimore last weekend. All had to qualify to compete in this Cadet and Junior National Championships. We are proud of all of their efforts and give a special congratulations to the following athletes who made Top 16 results in this very challenging competition:

  • Skyler Chin – 12th out of 220 in Juniors (under 20) Men’s Epee
  • Anna Brosgol – 16th out of 173 in Cadets (under 17) Women’s Epee. Anna also earned her B2013 rating.

HIGH SCHOOL FENCING

We also want to share good news from our fencers who compete on High School teams throughout the area. If you have team achievements to share, please email us!

  • Congratulations to the Great Neck South Varsity Fencing Team members: Skyler Chin, Alex Hall and Kevin Ko, who were named All-County First Team
    • Great Neck South was the undefeated Men’s Division I, League, and Nassau County Champions for 2012-2013
    • Skyler Chin, Epee Team Captain, was also awarded All Long Island Honors
    • Alex Hall took Bronze in the Nassau County Individual Championships
    • Kevin Ko placed 5th in the Nassau County Individual Championships
  • We are proud of Bennett Cohen who made the Jericho High School Varsity Fencing Team as a 7th grader. Bennett is the youngest fencer to start for any Varsity fencing team in Nassau County this season.

NYFA SUMMER NATIONALS 2012 WRAP-UP

Another season has ended with Summer Nationals, the biggest fencing event in the world.  More than 5,000 athletes converged in Anaheim, California to compete in all age groups and weapons. NYFA was represented by 13 athletes: Sophia Chelnitsky, Alex Watkins, Michael Burovsky, Anton Chmut, Bennett Cohen, Sam Burman, Richard Kim, Alan Temiryaev, Anna Brosgol, Skyler Chin, Romain Cannone, Jackie Khrol, and Luca Bellomi.   Some are seasoned and experienced but most are young and promising athletes who were fencing in a competition of such scale for the first time.  All should be proud to have made it to Summer Nationals – you qualified, fought hard and gained great experience for future events.  Congratulations!
