NEW NYFA COMPETITIONS – FEBRUARY

Below are our new club competitions through February.  You can still sign up in our club for today’s E & Under tournament or Round Robin. Next month there are new Saturday tournaments including Unrated, Juniors, and another E & Under; and we’ve added Cadets to the Sunday Youth event.  If you’re eligible for a competition, make sure to register now. We also have our weekly unrated Round Robins open to everyone.

NEW SEASON STARTS SEPTEMBER 3 – GET READY TO FENCE!

The new season begins Monday, September 3.  If you haven’t already scheduled your classes and lessons, use the links below to make your selections:

Class Schedule:  Changes include a new intermediate epee class for kids 10 or younger who have at least one year of experience.

Session Packages: Members: see our 2-Month Member Sessions and save hundreds off individual class rates.  New Beginner Customers:  choose an Introductory Package which includes up to a half-year of free membership.

Register online for USFA membership:  USA Fencing requires everyone who practices in our club be a USFA member. You may register as a non-competitive ($5/yr) or competitive ($60/yr) member.  For more information on USFA membership options, click here.

NYFA SUMMER NATIONALS 2012 WRAP-UP

Another season has ended with Summer Nationals, the biggest fencing event in the world.  More than 5,000 athletes converged in Anaheim, California to compete in all age groups and weapons. NYFA was represented by 13 athletes: Sophia Chelnitsky, Alex Watkins, Michael Burovsky, Anton Chmut, Bennett Cohen, Sam Burman, Richard Kim, Alan Temiryaev, Anna Brosgol, Skyler Chin, Romain Cannone, Jackie Khrol, and Luca Bellomi.   Some are seasoned and experienced but most are young and promising athletes who were fencing in a competition of such scale for the first time.  All should be proud to have made it to Summer Nationals – you qualified, fought hard and gained great experience for future events.  Congratulations!

SUMMER SCHEDULE

NYFA’s Summer session starts July 2nd and will go until September 2nd.

The Summer class schedule is as follows:

  • Beginner Epee 6pm-7pm on Tuesday
  • Beginner Foil   6pm-7pm on Tuesday
  • Footwork Intermediate/Advanced – 5:30pm – 6:00pm on Wednesdays
  • Intermediate/Advanced Epee  – 6:00pm – 7:30pm on Wednesdays

Summer is an ideal time to try fencing and if you have friends that are interested, bring them to NYFA.   Remember to ask about our Referral program.

NYFA KICKS OFF NATIONALS WITH MEDAL IN DIV III CHAMPIONSHIPS

Congratulations to Richard Kim for earning 8th place out of 129 fencers in the Division III Men’s Epee National Championships in Anaheim!

FENCING CAMP REMINDERS!

JUNE 23-27 PRE-SUMMER NATIONALS CAMP at NYFA:
REGISTER by 6/1 for discount on full week

All competitive fencers are welcome whether attending Nationals or not.  Fee includes training and open bouting after camp hours.  Intermediate-advanced fencers ages 10+.  $400 members.  $450 non-members. $100 daily.  More info.

Join Coach Misha and teammates on the beautiful campus of The Hill School in Pennsylvania, where competitive fencers in all 3 weapons will be preparing for the upcoming season.  Intermediate-advanced fencers ages 10+. $1350. Contact NYFA with questions. More info.

SUPER YOUTH RESULTS AT COBRA

This weekend our young athletes competed in the “Cobra Super Youth Circuit” with the strongest fencers from all over the country. For most of our fencers, it was their first event of that scale and we are proud they handled it well.
Here are the best results:

  • Alan Temiryaev – 3rd place in Y10 men’s epee
  • Mark Dolgonos – 11th place in Y10 men’s epee

2 NYFA FENCERS TAKE HOME GOLD AT COBRA YOUTH TOURNAMENT
